Bedroom Window Egress
A window is usually the required second exit in bedrooms located on the fourth floor or lower. National and local building codes require these windows to provide an unobstructed opening area of 5.7 square feet with a 20" minimum width and 24" minimum height.

These dimensions provide an area large enough to permit room occupants to exit and firefighters with backpacks to enter.
